What we believe

Most of what determines how a person feels and functions at 60, 70, and 80 is not decided in a clinic. It is decided in ordinary hours: what time they wake, whether they see daylight, how they move through the day, what is on the plate, whom they talk to, and how the evening winds down. These things are unremarkable on any given day and enormous over a decade. We call them roots.

Daily Root exists to take those habits seriously. We read what public health institutions and academic medical centers publish about them, translate it into language a busy adult can use, and are honest about what the evidence supports and what it does not.

The five roots

Everything we publish is organized around five areas of daily life that research keeps returning to:

  • Sleep & Rest: how sleep changes with age, and the routines that still help.
  • Movement: strength, balance, and everyday activity that keeps the body capable.
  • Food & Kitchen: practical nutrition for real kitchens, without fads.
  • Mind & Memory: attention, memory, mood, and the habits that support them.
  • Connection & Purpose: relationships, hearing, routine, and the shape of a good day.

Who we write for

Our readers are mostly in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond. They are adults who have raised families, run businesses, cared for parents, and read a great deal of health advice written for people half their age. We do not talk down to them, we do not frighten them, and we do not pretend that any single habit is a solution to anything. We assume our readers can weigh evidence and make their own choices, and we try to give them what they need to do that.

How we work

Our full editorial standards are public, and the essentials are these:

  • Sources you can check. Every article ends with a list of the public health institutions and academic medical centers it draws on, with links. We do not cite studies we cannot trace, and we do not invent statistics.
  • Careful language. We say "may help" when the evidence says "may help." We avoid promises, absolutes, and the vocabulary of hype.
  • Editorial, not product guides. Our articles are about habits and evidence. Any advertising or sponsored content on the site is labeled and kept separate from our editorial work.
  • Corrections. When we get something wrong, we fix it and say so on the article. Our corrections policy explains how.
  • Built to be read. Large type, high contrast, a text-size control, and nothing that interrupts reading. See our accessibility statement.

Authorship

Articles on Daily Root are written and reviewed by the Daily Root editorial team and published under that name. We do not attach individual bylines, professional titles, or credentials, and we do not present our writers as clinicians. Our content is general information for adults, and it is not medical advice; please read our health disclaimer.

How the site is funded

Daily Root may display advertising, and may in future publish sponsored content that is clearly labeled as such. Advertising never influences what we cover or what we say, and advertisers have no role in our editorial process. Our advertising disclosure has the details.
