Editorial Standards and Corrections Policy

These are the rules we hold ourselves to. They are public so that readers can hold us to them as well.

1. Our mission

Daily Root explains what research says about the everyday habits that shape health after 40, in language that a busy adult can use, with sources that a skeptical adult can check. We publish for readers, not for algorithms, and we would rather publish less and be right than publish more and be first.

2. Independence

Daily Root is owned and operated by ZN Digital Ventures LLC, an independently owned digital media company. Our editorial decisions are made by our editorial team alone. Advertisers, if any, have no knowledge of or influence over what we publish before it appears, and our advertising disclosure explains how advertising is kept separate.

3. Sourcing

Our sourcing rules are strict because health information deserves them.

  • We draw on public institutions. Our primary sources are public health agencies and research institutes such as the National Institutes of Health and its institutes, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the World Health Organization, and academic medical centers that publish patient information. Every article lists the sources it draws on, with links.
  • We cite institutions, not individuals. We do not build articles around individual experts, personalities, or testimonials, and we do not quote named clinicians.
  • We do not invent numbers. If we state a figure, it comes from an official guideline or a source we link to. Where the evidence is a body of research rather than a single figure, we say so in words rather than manufacturing a statistic.
  • We report the state of the evidence honestly. When findings are preliminary, mixed, or observational, we say so. "Associated with" is not "causes," and we keep the distinction.
  • We do not cite what we cannot trace. A claim that cannot be attributed to a source we can link is removed.

4. Language

We write in plain American English for adult readers. We use conditional language where the evidence is conditional, which is most of the time: "may support," "research suggests," "is associated with." We avoid absolutes, promises, and the vocabulary of hype. We do not use fear or urgency to hold attention, and we do not describe bodies in shaming terms. We aim for a reading level that a general adult audience finds comfortable, with defined terms where a technical word is unavoidable.

5. What we do not publish

  • Product reviews or rankings.
  • Claims that any habit, food, activity, or product will produce a specific outcome.
  • Personal success stories or testimonials presented as typical results.
  • Content that presents our writers as clinicians or implies a clinical relationship with readers.
  • Sponsored content that is not clearly labeled as such.
  • Content generated to fill space rather than to inform.

6. Authorship and review

Articles are written and reviewed by the Daily Root editorial team and published under that collective name. Each article is checked against its sources before publication, and every claim that depends on a source is verified against that source. We do not attach individual bylines, titles, or credentials, and we do not claim medical review by clinicians. Readers should take our work as careful journalism, not as clinical guidance; our health disclaimer explains the difference.

7. Updating articles

Health guidance changes. When an institution updates a guideline that an article relies on, or when new evidence materially changes what a reasonable summary would say, we revise the article and show an "Updated" date beneath the headline alongside the original publication date. Minor edits for clarity, style, or broken links do not change the updated date.

8. Corrections policy

We make mistakes, and we correct them visibly.

  • How to report one. Email contact@dailyroot.site with the article title, the passage in question, and, if you have one, a source. Reports of factual errors are read before all other mail.
  • What we do. We review the report against the sources within five business days where possible. If we agree that the article is wrong, we correct the text and add a note at the end of the article stating what was changed and when. If the error is significant, the note appears near the top.
  • What counts. Factual errors, misattributed sources, and statements that overstate the evidence are corrected. Differences of interpretation or emphasis are considered but may not result in a change; we will explain why either way.
  • What we do not do. We do not quietly edit factual errors without a note, and we do not remove articles to avoid correcting them, except where a legal requirement applies.

9. Corrections log

Corrections to published articles are listed here as well as on the articles themselves. No corrections have been issued to date. When they are, each entry will give the article, the date, and a summary of the change.

10. Illustrations

All illustrations on Daily Root are original works created for the Site in a flat block-print style. We do not use stock photography, and we do not depict real or realistic people. Our illustrations are decorative and are not intended to convey medical information.

11. Feedback

We welcome criticism, suggestions, and questions about how we work at contact@dailyroot.site. Our contact page has more on what to include.
