Accessibility Statement
Daily Root is written for readers who have been reading for decades. We design the site so that it is comfortable to read at 45 and at 85, on a phone or a large screen, with or without a mouse.

Our commitment
ZN Digital Ventures LLC, the publisher of Daily Root, is committed to making dailyroot.site accessible to as many people as possible, including readers with low vision, color vision differences, reduced dexterity, hearing loss, and cognitive differences. Our target is conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, and we consider readability for older adults as a design requirement rather than an afterthought.
What we do
- Large text by default. Body text is set at 19 pixels or larger on every device, with generous line spacing and a comfortable line length.
- A text-size control. The "Aa" button in the header enlarges all text in two steps. Your choice is remembered on your device.
- High contrast. Text and background colors are chosen to exceed the WCAG AA contrast ratio, and links are underlined rather than distinguished by color alone.
- Typefaces chosen for legibility. Body text uses a typeface designed to reduce confusion between similar-looking letters and numbers, which helps readers with low vision.
- Large touch targets. Buttons, links in menus, and form controls are sized for fingers and unsteady hands, not just for mouse pointers.
- Keyboard access. Every part of the site can be reached and operated with a keyboard. A "Skip to main content" link appears when you press the Tab key on any page, and focus is clearly visible.
- Clear structure. Pages use proper headings, landmarks, and lists so that screen readers can navigate them, and every illustration has a text description or is marked as decorative.
- Calm pages. The site has no autoplaying video, carousels, or parallax effects, and nothing interrupts reading. The cookie notice is a small bar that does not block the page.
- Works without scripts. All content and navigation are available in plain HTML. Scripts only add conveniences such as the menu button and the text-size control.
- Prints well. Articles print cleanly, without navigation or advertising, for readers who prefer paper.
Known limitations
We test the site in current versions of major browsers on Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, and with common screen readers. Some older browsers may not display the site's fonts or layout as intended, though all content remains readable. External sites we link to, including public health institutions, have their own accessibility practices that we do not control.
Tips for reading comfortably
- Use the "Aa" button in the header to enlarge text, or your browser's zoom (Ctrl and + on Windows, Command and + on Mac).
- Most browsers offer a "reader view" that strips the page down to the article text; Daily Root works well with it.
- If you use a screen reader, the main navigation, the article body, the sources list, and the footer are all labeled landmarks.
Feedback
If you find any part of Daily Root difficult to read or use, we want to know. Please email contact@dailyroot.site with the address of the page, the device and browser you were using, and what happened. Accessibility reports are read before other mail, and we aim to respond within five business days.
