1. Who we are

Daily Root (dailyroot.site, "the Site") is published and operated by ZN Digital Ventures LLC ("we," "us," or "our"), a limited liability company registered in the State of Wyoming, United States, with its registered address at 525 Randall Ave, Cheyenne, Wyoming 82001, United States. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us at contact@dailyroot.site.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Newsletter sign-up. If you subscribe to The Sunday Root, we collect your email address and the date and approximate source of your subscription.
  • Correspondence. If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and the contents of your message.

Information collected automatically

  • Log and device data. When you visit the Site, our hosting provider and the services described below may record your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, screen size, referring page, the pages you view, the time and duration of your visit, and similar technical information.
  • Cookies and similar technologies. See section 3.
  • Approximate location. Derived from your IP address at the level of country, region, or city. We do not collect precise geolocation.

We do not ask for, and ask that you do not send us, sensitive information such as details of your health conditions, financial account numbers, or government identifiers.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. Similar technologies include pixels (tiny images or scripts that record that a page was loaded), local storage (a browser feature that stores settings), and device identifiers. The Site uses these technologies in the following ways:

  • Preferences. We use your browser's local storage to remember your cookie choice and your text-size setting. This information stays on your device and is not sent to us.
  • Analytics. To understand which pages are read and how the Site performs. See section 4.
  • Advertising. To measure the effectiveness of our advertising and to reach people who may be interested in the Site. See section 5.

When you first visit, a notice at the bottom of the page lets you accept or decline. Your choice is stored in your browser. You can also control cookies through your browser settings, and our Cookie Policy describes each category in more detail.

4. Analytics

We may use third-party analytics services that collect information about how visitors use the Site, such as which pages are viewed, how long visitors stay, and how they arrived. These services use cookies and similar technologies and may combine the information they collect from the Site with information collected from other sites. We use the resulting reports to understand what our readers find useful and to improve the Site. Analytics providers act under their own privacy policies, and we configure them to collect the minimum needed for these purposes.

5. Advertising and third-party pixels

We promote Daily Root through advertising on social media and other platforms, and we may display advertising on the Site. To measure and improve that advertising, the Site may include tracking pixels and tags from third-party advertising platforms, including the Meta Pixel operated by Meta Platforms, Inc. (the company behind Facebook and Instagram), and similar tools from other platforms.

These pixels record that your device loaded a page on the Site and may share that event, along with technical information such as your IP address, browser information, and the page address, with the platform. If you have an account with the platform, it may associate this activity with your account according to its own privacy policy. The platforms use this information to report to us, in aggregate, on the results of our advertising, to show our advertising to people who have visited the Site or who resemble our readers, and for their own purposes as described in their policies.

We do not share your name or email address with advertising platforms for these purposes, and we do not receive from them information that identifies you individually.

You can limit this kind of tracking by declining cookies in our notice, by adjusting your browser settings, by using the advertising controls in your social media account settings, and by visiting the industry opt-out tools listed in section 9.

6. How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • operate, secure, and maintain the Site;
  • send The Sunday Root to subscribers and manage subscriptions;
  • respond to your messages, including corrections, accessibility feedback, and privacy requests;
  • understand how the Site is used and improve its content and design;
  • measure and manage our advertising;
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.

Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, our legal bases are your consent (for non-essential cookies and the newsletter), our legitimate interests in operating and promoting the Site (balanced against your rights), and compliance with legal obligations.

7. How we share information

We share personal information only as described in this section, and we do not exchange it for money:

  • Service providers that host the Site, deliver email, and provide analytics, acting on our instructions.
  • Advertising platforms, as described in section 5, which may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" under some U.S. state laws (see section 10).
  • Legal requirements, when we believe disclosure is required by law, regulation, or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our readers, ourselves, or others.
  • Business transfers, if the Site or our company is sold, merged, or reorganized, in which case this policy will continue to apply to the transferred information.

8. Retention and security

We keep newsletter subscription information until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. We keep correspondence for as long as needed to handle your request and for a reasonable period afterward for record-keeping. Log data and analytics data are retained according to the settings of the providers involved and are deleted or anonymized in the ordinary course. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including serving the Site over HTTPS, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

9. Your choices

  • Cookie notice. Choose "Decline" in our notice to record that you do not wish to accept non-essential cookies. Your choice is stored in your browser.
  • Browser settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies and clear local storage. Blocking all cookies may affect some features.
  • Industry opt-outs. The Digital Advertising Alliance (optout.aboutads.info), the Network Advertising Initiative (optout.networkadvertising.org), and, in Europe, Your Online Choices (youronlinechoices.eu) offer tools to opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies.
  • Platform settings. Social media platforms provide advertising preference controls within your account settings.
  • Newsletter. Every issue includes an unsubscribe link, or write to us at contact@dailyroot.site.
  • Global Privacy Control. Where required by law, we honor browser-based opt-out preference signals for the browser in which they are set.

10. California and other U.S. state rights

If you are a resident of California, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act) gives you the right to:

  • know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources, our purposes, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it;
  • delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to exceptions;
  • correct inaccurate personal information;
  • opt out of the sale of your personal information or its sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising;
  • limit the use of sensitive personal information (we do not collect sensitive personal information as defined by the law);
  • non-discrimination for exercising these rights.

The advertising pixels described in section 5 may constitute "sharing" under California law. To opt out, decline cookies in our notice, use the tools in section 9, or email us with "Do Not Sell or Share" in the subject line. Residents of Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have similar rights, which we honor to the extent those laws apply to us. To exercise any right, email contact@dailyroot.site with "Privacy request" in the subject line. We will verify your request using the email address associated with your information and respond within the time required by law. You may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf.

11. Rights for visitors in the EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the right to request access to, rectification of, or erasure of your personal information; to restrict or object to its processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We are located in the United States, and information we collect is processed there. Where we transfer information from these regions, we rely on appropriate safeguards recognized under applicable law. To exercise these rights, email contact@dailyroot.site.

12. Children

The Site is written for adults and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last revised. Material changes will be noted on this page, and your continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the revised policy.
